Fr. Roberto grew up in Colombia. He is the son of Roberto Suarez and Margarita Barbosa and has one brother and two sisters.
Fr. Roberto first heard the calling to become a priest at a young age. Pope John Paul II visited the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in his hometown. After this, the desire to become a priest persisted in his heart.
Fr. Roberto initially planned to attend seminary in Bogota. He was introduced to Fr. Brian Higgins, who at the time was the Director of Vocations in the Atlanta Archdiocese. Fr. Roberto then came to Atlanta for a year to discern. After that, he attended St. Bonaventure Franciscan University in Bogota,Colombia, and completed a degree in philosophy at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Monterrey, Mexico. He then completed his formation at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in Chicago. Fr. Roberto also studied English at Georgia State University.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching movies and playing the guitar. We are so blessed to have Fr. Roberto at our parish! Please pray that his new vocation will bring many years of joy to his life.
